Apparently scrub refers to someone who is not new, but is bad at the game. I could be wrong, but I think the most recent wave of popularity in the term was started by Lomar (Lomar used it, it caught on with Fyng, so it was an instant hit with the herkies and other thralls, then their enemies used the term to mock them [see: Lobo])
