I've been reading old logs and comment sections today. It makes me feel sad to refresh the log list and listen to all of this. :P

If herkie king outed alts or something bad, that would be acceptable to unban (NOT URBAN). However, he doesn't give a shit about your authority, this site, the people on it etc. So if you let him in, he will fuck it up until you quit letting him have access.

For the last few days I haven't been sleeping well and I've been feeling extra retarded - as evidenced by it taking me over a day to understand what Urban was talking about - so I might just be going about this stupidly. If you want the response tree trimmed or removed say so and I'll go at it.

Without taking sides (I have my gripes and affections for both sides) ... that sort of comment makes me want to stick up for them :P It might feel good, but it's counterproductive towards your stated goals. (Also, Ravathir put 'doesn't do anything with his life' in quotes - Who said it? If Brubaker did, his claim seems to have a lot more merit than your indictment of it.)
Urban: I used to relax after work by playing for many (many) hours in a row. It's not that unreasonable. A better indictment of his claim is that, from what I've heard, he seems to be playing those long hours during working days (eg from 10am-midnight on a Thursday). That said, many people have different work schedules which permit pretty strange hours. While I was working my desk job I would log on at 9am and stay logged on until a few hours after I got home (I'd leave my telnet running on my work computer, then kick myself off by logging on at home.)

Was Rhakyrh actually banned as a typist, or simply banned on every single alt one by one and then several other peoples' alts because he refused to accept the consequences of his actions? Basically the same as what happened on the MUD I guess, though I don't see any need for the logpage to follow in the same spineless footsteps.
He was perma banned because he was stopped from posting logs/comments for flaming, outing alts and log spamming (arguably the spamming part is debatable). He then proceeded to get around the ban by either borrowing, or stealing other peoples accounts to continue posting logs or comments.
In my eyes that shows a flagrant disregard for any kind of acknowledgement of rules, the flaming, alt outing tbh I don't really care about, since we have the option of simply ignoring him via the log pages ignore option.
As a matter of fact Myrddin Gambrinus most certainly has. This is why he hides his monthly aging.
Unbanning somebody would depend on what exactly they did to be banned in the first place. I see nothing wrong with typist bans if the person is outing everybody's alts, or doing anything else that's a direct detriment to the MUD. With that said, not knowing what it was exactly that got Rhakyrh banned, it should be left up to your discretion. If whatever it was won't destroy everything here, there's no real harm done in allowing him back. It's like Lucky said, if he continued it after being unbanned, he could just be banned again anyway.
If it's just for the number of insults found within most of his comments, consider that we currently have a few people who make calmer posts that are just as hateful, even if they present them in a good-humored way. We might as well get the other side too.
And Pounder if you wanted further proof Caenedrin lacks an education, 15 x 7 x 4 / 24 = 17.5d monthly aging, which Gambrinus has clearly never even come close to.

Someone brought a matter to my attention which I think deserves community input, rather than an arbitrary administrative decision.
We do ban characters on a permanent basis. There's no getting around that, it's just how we operate. However, banning _typists_ is a reasonably new policy (relatively speaking -- we've been doing it for 2 or 3 years now).
Even if a typist makes trouble, they're still part of the community. On Towers, sitebans have _always_ been temporary (even when the admin says they're not - I've spoken to three different PoLs and all, including the historically more strict one, independently confirmed that if a sitebanned individual asks to come back after a few months of staying away the likelihood of reinstatement is very strong).
Now, the particular case which demands attention on this matter is Rhakyrh. He has broken more rules in more ways than anyone in the history of this site. The logpage is not a game. You can't cheat here any more than you can cheat when you read a novel. Having said that, Rhakyrh has cheated here. That's the only way I can describe it.
I think he's a destructive influence pretty much wherever he is, and that playing the game as well as being on the logpage is not healthy for him.
All that said, it's not my place to ban people because I dislike them or to make healthy choices for others. Removing personal judgments, it seems like the option of effectively going on parole should be considered at this point: He's been typist-banned for 6 months, has apparently been behaving himself on the MUD to the satisfaction of the administration there and, as far as I can tell, hasn't had any egregious rules violations on the other logpage.
Before I pursue this course of action, I'd like to know what the community thinks. I will take feedback under consideration before making my decision (though the possibility that I'll ultimately disagree with you exists). Give me things to think about before I decide the issue for now. Lets be honest here. Rhakyrh and Finnegan have been known to play as much as 10 hours on weekends. Gambrinus on the other hand plays 15 or more hours a day, everyday. I dont even know why you try to defend it, all one has to do is log in and legend Gambrinus and they have their empirical evidence.
Both Finnegan and Rhakyrh have reached a quiauh-level of activity before. Gambrinus is an addict, but i don't recall him doing so.
