Have you ever tried to kill someone that had 60 location and would always do finds on you know that you wanted to kill them? It's not easy, for example, CocksuckerA stands at MT and sees that CocksuckerB is on the Great West Road, well, lets just fade right past him! Disaster avoided, then after numerous legends and finds he sees that CocksuckerB is idle, so he runs to get some quick gold next to a huntbreak, that's really not that easy to get a kill now is it? So really, I don't see what's wrong with logging on and sitting in an innroom for an hour with stone dropped to catch someone by surprise :)
Making these social connections you talk of is one of the main skills of the MUD, imo :-)
